The Red Clay Strays Open Up About Faith and Music on Their Extended Grateful Tour
Frontman Brandon Coleman shared a candid message during a concert in Macon, Georgia, explaining the band's perspective on spirituality, their audience, and their artistic identity as they travel on their 2026 tour.
Hailing from Mobile, Alabama, The Red Clay Strays—comprising frontman Brandon Coleman, electric guitarist Drew Nix, electric guitarist Zach Rishel, bassist Andrew Bishop, drummer John Hall, and keyboardist Sevans Henderson—have made faith a core element of their sound. Despite incorporating religious themes into their catalog, the group maintains a clear distinction regarding their identity as performers rather than spiritual leaders.
Key Moments in the Band's Evolution
During the 2020 pandemic, band members took up driving for Uber to keep their music dream alive while relying on their faith and shared vision through uncertain times.
The band released their project Made By These Moments, further solidifying their distinct sound and spiritual themes within their music.
Their newest record, Grateful, debuted, featuring faith-centered tracks such as "Demons In Your Choir" and "Revival."
Brandon Coleman addressed concertgoers to clarify the band's stance on their beliefs and appreciation for all fans before performing "God Does."
Onstage Remarks from Frontman Brandon Coleman
"I do tell people at our shows sometimes, I just feel the need to let them know we're not naive little country bumpkins. We're fully aware that not everyone believes in God… We're not setting out to be anyone's spiritual leaders and we don't want to be a Christian band or a rock band or a country band. We just want to make music and make art. And if you listen to it, that's all that matters to us. If you don't believe in God, I'd like to thank you for supporting us and listening to our music. We are not trying to preach to anybody. We are not preachers, we are far from perfect… we just make music and God's a big part of our life. He's in our music."
