Six workers sustained injuries following Ed Sheeran's concert at Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday night. The incident occurred during post-show load-out operations when production equipment lost control backstage while the stage was being dismantled.
Emergency services were dispatched to the stadium at approximately 11:00 p.m. CT. According to local reports, all six individuals were transported to the hospital, where two workers were listed in serious condition and four in stable condition. Officials confirmed that none of the injuries were life-threatening.
Backstage Equipment Loses Control During Stage Breakdown
The accident reportedly involved a forklift operating near a backstage tunnel designated for moving heavy stage equipment and gear in and out of the venue. According to statements from workers on site, the machinery lost control and struck several crew members working in the immediate area.
One affected crew member described the event as happening in a split second, stating he was struck directly in the chest and had never witnessed a similar incident during stage breakdown. At least one injured worker remained hospitalized overnight following the incident.
Ford Field Launches Investigation
Representatives for Ford Field confirmed that at least one of the injured individuals was an employee of the stadium. Venue officials released a statement addressing the incident and confirming an ongoing investigation:
"Ford Field has begun a full review and is cooperating with the appropriate authorities and with the event’s production partners. Out of respect for the people involved and the integrity of that review, we will not speculate on the cause. We are grateful to the Detroit Fire Department and EMS for their rapid response."
Ed Sheeran's LOOP Tour Overview
The Detroit show is part of Ed Sheeran's ongoing LOOP Tour, launched in support of his latest studio album, Play. The North American leg began in June and is scheduled to continue through early November.
Following the Detroit date, the tour moves to East Rutherford, New Jersey, for a two-night engagement at MetLife Stadium on September 4 and September 5.
