Hip-hop icon JAY-Z delivered a memorable performance at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, just north of Paris, on Thursday, September 10th. As part of his limited JAŸ-Z30 Tour, the stadium show featured high-profile guest appearances from Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams.
The tour marks a milestone celebration for the New York rap legend, honoring 30 years since the release of his debut album Reasonable Doubt and 25 years since The Blueprint.
Surprise Guest Appearances
During the concert, Justin Timberlake joined JAY-Z on stage for a rendition of “Holy Grail,” the lead track from JAY-Z's 2013 album Magna Carta Holy Grail. The pair followed up with Timberlake's track “Until the End of Time,” which previously featured Beyoncé on its 2007 remix release.
Timberlake was not the only guest artist to share the stage. Producer and artist Pharrell Williams joined JAY-Z for a four-song stretch during the evening, performing joint tracks including “Excuse Me Miss,” “La-La-La (Excuse Me Miss Again),” “Frontin’,” and “Allure.”
Career-Spanning 34-Song Setlist
The concert featured an extensive 34-song setlist opening with “On to the Next One” and closing with “Numb / Encore,” his 2004 track with Linkin Park. Highlights from The Blueprint took up a major portion of the lineup, featuring tracks such as “Heart of the City (Ain’t No Love),” “Izzo (H.O.V.A.),” and “U Don’t Know.”
Selections from The Black Album also featured heavily, including “99 Problems,” “Dirt Off Your Shoulder,” and “Public Service Announcement.” Other notable performances throughout the night included “Big Pimpin’,” “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem),” and “Empire State of Mind.”
Tour Background and Upcoming Dates
The Paris show concluded a three-night European leg across the UK and France. Prior to Saint-Denis, JAY-Z performed two nights in London with guest appearances by actor Idris Elba, DJ Khaled, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and South London rapper Giggs.
The JAŸ-Z30 Tour is a selective eight-show run across four cities. It launched earlier in the summer with a three-night stand at Yankee Stadium in July and will conclude with two shows in California this October.
