Days after the passing of country music legend Dolly Parton, her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been damaged. The star, which was first given to the singer in 1984 was found with her name scratched off the plaque. There are also reports that floral tributes left by fans were taken from the site.
This happened as people around the world began mourning the loss of the icon, who died on August 25 at the age of 80 in Nashville, Tennessee. She had been fighting a battle with cancer.
Vandalism and Restoration Efforts
After news of Dolly Parton’s death spread fans gathered at her Hollywood Walk of Fame star to set up a memorial. They placed flowers and personal notes to honor her.. Later visitors discovered that someone had used a sharp object to scratch her name off the plaque. Flowers had been taken away from the area well.
Ana Martinez, a spokesperson for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said the star was already scheduled for maintenance because of cracks in the surface. Still photos shared online showed scratches added to the plaque.
The Hollywood Historic Trust is now working to restore the star. Workers cleared the site of flowers so they could begin repairs. Officials say the star will be cleaned and polished. It should be returned to view by Friday.
