Billy Ray Cyrus has shared his thoughts on his daughter Miley’s decision to drop her name and go by just MILEY for her music career. The move comes ahead of her album Bass Persuades. Billy Ray said he fully supports the change and said he has always called her Miley. He sees it as a step for someone who is already a music legend.
He compared her choice to famous artists who used only their first names. He mentioned Dolly Parton, Cher, Elvis Presley and Prince. He said it's a trend among stars and that Miley is following in their footsteps. "It's a progression for an iconic superstar legend.. The legend continues!" he said.
Billy Ray also took a moment to reflect on his past. He revealed that before his break with "Achy Breaky Heart" in 1992 he was known simply as CYRUS. He said his early merchandise had "CYRUS... SOME GAVE ALL" printed on it along with a POW MIA flag. He joked that if the record label had let him keep his last name his career might have gone in a different direction.
This supportive message comes after a period of healing in the family. Billy Ray has been working to rebuild his bond with his children, Miley and Noah. He said he was inspired by advice from Elizabeth Hurley. Miley spoke about this on The Interview podcast year. She said it was hard to adjust after her parents’ divorce. She now fully supports her father’s happiness.
With their relationship strengthened Billy Ray is excited for Miley’s music project. He sees her move, to MILEY as an confident step. He believes she is ready to take her place as a solo artist.. He’s right there with her cheering her on every step of the way.
