Fontaines D.C. Deliver Emotional Headline Set at Reading Festival 2026: Highlights and Full Setlist

Fontaines D.C. reached a massive career milestone on Friday, August 28, taking the stage as primary headliners at Reading Festival 2026. Closing out the opening night of the iconic event on the festival's main stage, now named The Grid, the Irish rock group delivered a powerful debut headline set following co-headliner Charli XCX.

Despite experiencing pre-show delays that forced changes to their planned performance, the band delivered a memorable set filled with fan favorites, fresh tracks, and an emotional tribute to their late manager.

Technical Delays and Setlist Adjustments

Before the band could take the stage, technical difficulties caused a delay of roughly 30 minutes. The unexpected setback meant Fontaines D.C. had to trim several songs from their scheduled lineup to fit the remaining time slot.

Among the cut tracks was the planned live debut of an unreleased song titled "Happy For You," as well as three other selections. Nevertheless, the group maintained incredible momentum throughout the set, treating fans to newly debuted tracks like "Marianne" and "Six Shot Morning." They closed out their high-energy performance with "Starburster," their Grammy-nominated hit single from their fourth album, Romance.

An Emotional Night Onstage

The headline appearance held deep personal significance for the band, following the recent passing of their longtime manager, Trevor Dietz, who was deeply cherished as a sixth member of the group.

After delivering a passionate performance of "Big Shot," frontman Grian Chatten took a moment to address the audience. He expressed heartfelt appreciation to the crowd for their support, acknowledging how challenging the past few months had been for the entire band.
